    921 to 721?

Anyone gone from a 921 to a 721. I have a 16 921 that my friend wants to buy. I haven't seen the new 721 but my only desire would be a slightly shorter boat or slightly narrower in heavy timber or shallow water applications. A had a Triton 21x that seemed like the perfect size (not saying perfect boat). Other than that love the 921 and the rough water ride! Thoughts,,,,,

I ran a 921 for a few months. I own a 721. When I got back in the 721 I missed that front deck right away but now I don't even think about it ever.

I would probably go from 921 to 920.

From what you are looking for, the 721 would be ideal. Slightly shorter and narrower. Exactly a 921 to 721 comparison.

I believe the 721 is 7" shorter. 721 is 20'11" and the 921 is 21'6" according to the Phoenix site.

Yes almost 21 even. Very close to my old 21x. Think it's a little more narrower up front at pedestal than old boat. The 921 is awesome up front. Would think the 721 would feel a little sportier in performance but might sacrifice ride in bigger water.

It can't help but as sacrifice a little ride, but that said, she is still going to handle anything the 921 can. IMO of course.

If your wanting more speed and handling, I'd say the 721 will give you that.

Best thing would be to spend some time in one. The lack of deck space 'shock' will be the greatest on your first trip out.

I'd say you can't loose either way...

    Good luck!

    I have a 921. I also have a 1999, 202 Champion that I use quite often. It is skinny!
I will say... with rods on both sides, and the butt seat in, I can barely turn around to walk back to cockpit.

I know the 721 is way wider than my 202, but you may "feel" like it's a skinny deck at first, especially with the Phoenix butt set in.
I can't believe how big those butt seats are! Just getting around it on my 921 is a pain, and I'm a thin guy.
I put a small butt seat on up front in any boat I own. I barely even use it in my 921 unless it's pretty choppy out. My wife likes the Phoenix butt seat.

I would stick with a 9 series for deck width.
The 920 and 721 will handle any water the 921 will.
You just may have to be a little more careful, go a little slower, and you'll be safe.

If you use a butt seat, a smaller one is a real space saver on any boat. I use a pre 2010 Ranger butt seat on my 920 and it's smaller size helps with moving around the boat. The Phoenix butt seat is way to big to be functional.

Measuring across the pedestal post holes, 721 vs 921, there was a 5 inch difference in width in 2016.
Now that the deck is raised up a little on newer 721's, the diff is more like 4.5"...not much
Doesn't sound like much till you're laying rods out and standing up there.

It seems alot narrower once you're up there. I think the extra length gives it that appearance

My rods on my 721 are never next to my feet there slid back I would rather take one step and be flipping thn two or three I had a 206 champ that's quite a bit wider than 921 bought the 721 don't miss the wide deck don't really see the point unless you have a short where the rods would be in the way
