    Axiom Side Imaging

    I have a 9" Axiom 3d unit and have been playing with the side imaging quite a bit. I can't seem to get very clear images and fish/structure create no shadows. The side imaging seemed to get better when I turned the sensitivity up but I'm still quite disappointed by the blotchy screen. Any tips or settings people want to share to get better images? Thanks.

    Are you running Software Version: v3.0.66

    Original color palet for Side and Down was a little dark. Working to get it lightened up a little.

    Night try slowing the scroll speed down to 90 or 80. That will give the image a little more time to build.

    I am having the same issue. Have been pretty disappointed with the side imaging as of yet. Have it setup next to a gen3 lowrance 9 and still prefer their side imaging.

    Do any of you have any screen shots of how blotchy the screen is?

    I will try to slow the scroll down and report back. I am not expecting the side imaging to be as clear as Humminbird's Mega but I expected it to be as good as Lowrance's based on the chirp frequencies used. I can drive right next to a dock and the unit shows almost nothing. I can drive past a log pile and the unit shows almost nothing. The 2d chirp and down imaging seem to work well, happy with those. I'll have to post some side image shots after I get out next to compare with others. Maybe something's wrong with my unit?

    Slow it down to 65.

    Adjust your gain depending on depth of water. Adjust +/- 2 usually. I'm around 35

    I have been adjusting my gain manually just to the point of being too hot depending on depth of water and zoom distance. I believe my scroll speed is set around 100 though. What boat speed are you achieving the best images with?

    There's a link to some of my images.

    I'm about 3-3.5mph. In gear with hotfoot.

    All of mine is manual as well. Auto works, but bounces too much with depth changes for me. I also changes the ping rate as well. I have that manual at 90? I think.

    100 is way too fast for non vertical fishing. I'm at 65-70. Vertical on the bow I'm 125 or so. But that's totally different deal there.

    I currently don't have anything close to that detail.

    Start with those changes. 65 for scroll speed, around 35-40 for gain and intensity. Fine tune from there depending on your structure and cover

    This does bring up a question in my mind, is it possible for the power pack that produces the wavelength to be digitally adjusted? Is it possible to ping much higher frequencies with software (as opposed to the item being strictly hardware?) Or would the transducer also need to be changed as well?

    Scroll speed and Ping rate can be adjusted as well as gain and intensity. The actual kHz ranges are set and can't be adjusted.
    Sonar = 600W 50kHz or 200kHZ
    Sonar = CHIRP 170kHz - 230kHZ
    Side and Down = CHIRP 320kHZ - 380kHz

    The e97+cp200 seems to show more detail.

    I believe I'm running scroll speed on 60 and 70 for the side and down!

    No issues with the picture coming from the side view!!

    If you are running the CP200 and the Axiom at the same time you may be getting some interference. You might try turning off the sounder in the CP200 and see if it helps. Just a thought
