    How is fishing?

I have some time off in two weeks and was thinking about going out of Smallwood mid week. I've never been down at this time of year. Is it worth the 3 hour drive?

    Thanks

My son and I went down a few weeks ago. I hadn't been down prior to that day in a couple years and it was well worth the 2 hour drive for us. Lots of grass - you can stay in Mattawoman or go south a bit to Quantico or Aquia. Frogs, Senkos and Chatterbaits worked for us. Don't forget the bug spray.

Thanks for that link. I have never used Slavins but was thinking about trying it since I was planning to fish the upper part of Mattawoman. Any issues there with the ramp or parking? I will be there mid week so I am hoping it won't be crowded.

During the week should have no problem with parking. It gets busy on the weekends.

Tuesday is the day I'm heading down. How are water conditions from all the rain this past week?

It was beautiful Friday morning. Fish were on the topwater and the chatterbait from 5-7 am but once the tide started coming in the bite slowed significantly. Water was fairly clear and I saw 82-84 degrees.

Thanks. I didn't get on the water until 7:30 today. I got a couple right away but as you indicated when the tide turned it was over. I plan to get out earlier tomorrow so hopefully I will have better luck.

I would call the water heavily stained. I'm not sure if that is normal or if it is due to the rain. I stayed in the Mattawoman all day.
