    Which Loomis NRX

Wanting to try a NRX, just trying to figure out which one. I'm wanting a good Texas rig rod, I typically throw a 1/4-3/8 oz weight. Is the 853c the right one or the 893 or something else. Also what's the difference in the blue va green that I've read about?

    Thanks in advance!

873 is perfect for those weights. 894 for 1/2 to 3/4+

The green NRXs are no more. I use both the 853 and 893...my go to is the 853, I would suggest starting there. Dan

I use the 853 for the weights you mentioned, I've been very happy with the rods. In regards to the blue vs green they fish the same I have one of each. They don't sell the green rod anymore. I have never fished the 893 so I can't comment on that rod. Good luck with your decision. If you haven't fished with an NRX you won't be disappointed!

Many Loomis fans claim that the 893 has that "it factor" to it. Some feel that certain rods in the series have standout sensitivity. This one of the rods that has great feel. For what you are wanting the 893 would be just fine for 1/4 and 3/8 oz texas weights plus plastic but I wouldn't go any heavier than that. It is also a great weightless plastic rod for senkos and flukes. Last but not least for jigs up to 3/8 oz plus trailer it is great there as well. Had a chance to demo the 893 rod once and it would be a great starting place for 1st NRX. Add the 894 later and you are all set. The 873 will fish in between the 893 and 894.

If member "Bronzefly" doesn't see this shoot him a PM for BBC member pricing/rep sample NRX rods. He will get you set up with what you need

NRX 893 for me in those weights for t-rig. Jigs in that range in cover I would go 873.

Can't speak for the 893 but these other guys are right on the money with what they're using and telling you. I use the 853 for 5/16 oz shakey heads and up to 3/8 oz Texas rigged worms. The 873 is money for a 3/8 oz jig so I would have to think the 893 would be great as well.

I use a NRX 843 MBR, its a little slower but I can use it for many applications.

The 843 has a Conquest 101hg on it.

For 1/4 oz weights, I use an 803C JWR or an 853C JWR. For 3/8 oz weights I generally use an 854C JWR because I'm probably fishing heavier cover. The plastic you are attaching probably weights 1/8 to 1/4 oz on it's own.

I'd go for the 893. As mentioned above, it just has more of the "it" factor. I have that rod, 853's, 854, 873's and several others. The 853 would be a fine choice too, but I like the extra length. 873 is a Carolina rig rod, and fishes heavier than any other 3 series rod. Maybe even heavier than the 854. I do a lot of c-rigging, and it works great for that, but I would not use it for that light of a t-rig personally.

Pretty much the only difference between the 853C and the 893C is length. If you like longer rods, go with the 893C. If not, go with the 853C. I have both and don't really prefer one over the other.

your weight range would suggest a 3 power rod and 12-14# FC line. I've owned both the 803 and 893 and I prefer the 893. I frequently though use same weights into semi-heavy grass with 30# braid, in this case I use my 894. The 873 is slightly less powerful then 894 but is more like 894 then 893.

If I had to pick one rod for all duties, I'd take 894.

I have several NRX rods, for the weights you mentioned 853 or 893 would work great. The 894 best all purpose, but the 893 has mystical powers, I'm always reaching for it.

    I have an 853 and an 873.
853: weightless senkos, casting jigs (3/8 + plastic), 1/4 shaky head, 3/16 shaky senko, 5/16 casting Texas rigs

873: Carolina rigs, football jigs, bulkier plastics like creature baits and craws, mag trick worms, light ledge baits

I would snag a 843 at American legacy if it was me.

your joking right? this was my Shaky head rod for over 5 years and it was great! What I liked about it was the ability to finesse yet I have landed +8lb bass on it and the rod does not let line slap the blank
