    Ranger Sport Series Hulls

I've seen people mention before that the original R-80 R-82's were pretty similar to the 300 series hulls with a different cap design. My question is would the second gen R-71/81 ect share or have a similar hull design to the 400 series?

I'm not sure about being the same hulls as the 400 Series but the R series did look similar to me. But, on the R series, the hulls were the same no matter the model number, just different interior layouts. For instance,an R81 was the same hull as an R82.

you are correct. I think the r80 and 81's used the 300 hulls and the r82 and r83's used the 400 hulls with the setback. This may also apply to the r9x's also. The r7x models used hulls built for that boat specifically. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The R80 and R81 were not the same hull. The 80 was based on the 300 series. The R80 was single console. The R81 was similar to the 461. The R81 was single console. The others being dual console. I owned both. My R81 would boogie with the 175.

    Thanks for the info
...was thinking the r71 reminded me of the 451v.

You are correct Teambranham. The r80 and 82 are 300 hulls and single and double consoles. The r81 and 83 are 400 hulls. The 451 was rated to 175hp while the r70's are up to 130 or so. Don't see how they would be the same hull.

i have a 2000 r83 and it dont act like a 400 series hull, but mine only has a built in set back of about 5-6" the older 482vs had 14" set back,i am not a big fan of that 14" built in set back, thats almost a foot of boat thats not usable compared to a 4" jackplate, but i will say the 482vs is one of best riding boats i ever had,it rides better than my r83

I thought the 451 was only rated for 150hp and was the smallest boat in the 400 series....(I want to say 17.5' and about 83" beam)?

Could have been a 150 for the 451 but it is bigger than the r70's.

Could you imagine a 451 with one of the "hot" Fast Strike motors?!! It would probably run close to 70 GPS!

    I just sold my 1997 R82 10 days ago.

It was 17' 10" and had (and Rated for) a EFI 175
hated how narrow it was. rode like crap, but man it was fast.
