    1996 STRATOS TROLLING MOTOR WIRING

    All,

I have a 1996 Stratos 268. I want to upgrade to a 24v trolling motor. It currently has the old 12v OMC Johnson trolling motor. Upon close inspection of my battery compartment, it appears I have 2 each, "battery 1" and "battery 2" power and grounds. This obviously shows that it is wired for a 24v system.

Is anybody familiar with this? Did Stratos pre-wire their boats from the factory for 24v compatability?

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you're wired for two batteries in 12V parallel. This only carries 12V even though there is two batteries. You need wiring for 2 batteries in series which carries 24 V...go to the trolling motor forum and post EXACTLY what size/gauge wire you have and how its wired. John Jones will let you know what you need to do. If I were a betting man I say you will need at least 6 AWG wire, a new plug along with a jumper wire to make the series connection. John will know exactly what you need just make sure you tell him exactly what you have.

just install 2 batteries and you will get the 24 vlt out of the male plug to the
motor,or i did on my 96.The male plug is where the jumper is for the 24vlt.
may be a hole labeled 24v you put the + wire in from the pedal.Ground goes
in ground. If it is not labeled 24 the pos wire from the pedal goes in the hole
hooked to the jumper bar.I haven't had mine apart since 99 lol.

Hulapopr, did you keep your red Marinco male plug? My bow panel female plug says "12/24" but my red marinco male plug says "12v". I'm wondering if I will have to buy a black marinco "24v" male plug.

If you have two 12 volt plus and minuses at the 4 pin female recepticle at the bow, all you need is the Marinco 4 pin male plug with the internal jumper to make 24 volts. Been running mine 15 years like that no sweat.
