    Wright County AIS Craziness

Sounds like to fish on Lake John, Sylvia and Pleasant, you are gonna have to go to a cleaning station in Annandale and get your boat cleaned first. Then you get a tag or something to verify it and you can land there. Crazy. Not sure if this is a done deal yet, maybe some one else has more info on it. I don't fish those 3 lakes alot, so have not been to the actual landings yet.

Here is a petition to sign and share with your friends if you are against it. The assumption is that if the powers that be deem this is a good deal, it may go county wide. Mostly sounds like lake owners not wanting to share their so called lakes.

    https://www.gopetition.com/petitions/stop-the-lake-assosiations-of-sylviapleasantjohn-from-over-regulating-our-public-waters.html?sh=IMlM8AoMSQxNIcfoNg9yiFpa%2FO%2FWfbM tyY76qngBOpy0lFq9mG4%3D

Here's a link of what they are proposing. From reading, The station would open at 5:00am, so if you want to fish then, you would have to go there the night before. Not so easy if you don't live close. I assume long lines on a weekend.

Here is the link to the county commissioner for district 1 to call or email your concerns too.

What a mess. All this is going to do is cause people to avoid those lakes.

The worst part is that you nailed it - that's exactly what the lakeshore property owners and their associations want. A little more tactful than the homeowners around Christmas Lake just parking their vehicles and trailers in the lot on the weekends so there are no spaces left, but the same end result nonetheless.

We'll slowly lose our constitutional rights to utilize a resource we fund...one lake or river at a time.

The sad thing...most of the stupid f**k fisherman in this state think it's a good idea. I really hope the DNR does not sign off on this, as this will be a very large 'foot in the door'!

I don't think this program is enacted as I recently fished Pleasant and there was no such enforcement...there wasn't even an inspector at the landing.

Per the article that I found later, it looks like they are hoping to have it enacted by the end of July.

"The DNR must sign off on an official delegation of authority to the county before the program gets underway, but county officials said they expect that to happen by the end of July."

So maybe there is still a chance to stop it, if people let the DNR know they are not for this type of program.

Well that has been brought up around Green Lake (spicer) area too. The lake owners are pulling the strings as best they can.

Here is contact to voice your concerns to about the Pilot plan:
Wright county water and soil district water specialist - Alicia O'Hare 763 682 1933 ext 115
She had some good info on it and is also listening to concerns. Though I believe she is on the side of pushing this thru.

She did say right now they are getting more calls for than against. I believe this is because the Lake Assoc's are more organized than us boaters. I'm sure they get something in the mail telling them to call. Lots of us who live in the county didn't even know about this until now.

It has not gone thru yet, so call and voice your concerns. I guess the DNR has the final say. I think the county is hoping to get it thru by the end of the month.

Here's a DNR contact to call that Alicia gave me for the area:
    Heidi Wolf - 651-259-5152

Once they lock up the lake as their private playground, perhaps the state should calculate each owner's percentage of the acreage under the water. Charge them market value to purchase the land and then assess taxes accordingly.

I saw this on the Wright County website today: http://www.wrightswcd.org/Water_Mana...e_species.html
There's a link in Blue on the home page.

Sounds like they are having a meeting about it on AUG 23. From talking to the DNR, I believe they didn't allow the initial dates for this to happen. Mostly because there was really no comment period on it. Sounds like they are gonna have it now. Guess if your against it, now's your chance to speak up. You can also send in written comments. Not sure exactly to who, at least I didn't see that part clearly. Maybe to Alicia O'Hare.

Like others have said, I believe their ultimate goal is to have this implemented county wide at some point. When you look at the committee info, most groups are lake associations. Hopefully it still can be stopped.

Anyone else have new info on this?

Ruddy it's too late. Contracts are prepared, lease is ready to be signed, drawings are approved, permits for construction is all but in hand. All this was is an administrative hiccup in that they tried to pass it without public input. That place will be filled with the regular Lake ass propagandist, they will hog up the time telling stories about how they support it. I'm sure the Twin Lake cronies are flying in a specialist or two to give their paid opinions also. It is funny many laughed at the way they were throwing their money around trying to be Sylvia Too. Guess if you buy enough votes for people you can set a precedent by being the only lake to ever change their name. I bet Sylvia residents wish they would have fought it harder now that Twin is a cesspool of AIS and is pushing so hard for this. I'm also guessing the states boaters will be looking back at this and saying we should have fought harder. Way to many people saying this is Wright county's problem not realizing the grand scheme is to go state wide relatively quickly.

I understand that this is probably gonna get railroaded thru one way or another, but still wrote my letters and let them know what side I am on. I did get comments back from Alicia, the county lady and she said the reason for the pre-planned dates is to get the DNR to act on this. She said all comments will be taken into consideration, but we all know it is about the property values, right??

Anyways, meeting tonight at 7:00pm and comment period til August 28th. Oh, comment emails are on pages 18-19.

It is 100% about twin lakes property values. The same reason they went through the litigation to change the name to West Sylvia. They were funding many hrs of inspections above county and state dollars and they got two invasive in a single calendar year. This is just a save face tactic that everyone in the state is soon going to feel the repercussions of.

I went to the meeting last night, which was more like an Open House. They had no speaker or gave no presentation of the Plan. You just walked around and talked to some County Reps and two DNR reps. What I got out of it from the DNR was, write in your concerns to them. They have the final power. DNR lady was not impressed with the meeting and pointedly said, They can build all the washing stations they want, but until we approve it, it would just be voluntary. Talking to County and a few old friends who are lake owners, they want this thru now. They said it keeps getting pushed back. They are ticked at the DNR.

So morale of story, write the DNR, County and your State reps! If you could only write one letter, send it to the DNR.

    County - AIS@wrightswcd.org

Thanks for the attending and for the info. This actually feels like about the best-case scenario for this, especially given the way it's all been playing out. I saw that they had already broken ground on the cleaning/inspection station, so I figured this was all but done.

Last day to write in comments today, get em in! Your lake may not be on this list, but remember this is a pilot.

In the handouts, it says they want to expand it to other lakes in the county after the pilot goes thru!!

The Mandatory Boat Inspection Pilot was approved by the DNR, runs Oct 11 thru Oct 31 of this year. Then they have to reapply for 2018 for those same 3 lakes.

Not limited to just those three lakes when they reapply next year. They can, assume they will, try to add more. The maximum distance from the station is 15 miles the way I understood in my conversations with several involved. Should be interesting and as soon as we hear they are adding more our place by Hasty will be on the market. I'm not driving 28.5 miles total to put my boat into a lake I live on.
