    Starter ripped off

Yep , somehow starter ripped off block on 250 sho. Only one bolt but it appears at first glance to have split the mounting hole in half. Found part of the threaded hole laying in bottom of motor. Not the hole onnthe starter but the threaded hole it screws into.

No idea how this could happen

How big of a problem is this going to be to be fixed?

i am no mechanic so i googled it. I sure hope they can do that. Just by looking at the peace of hole that fell off, i have my doubts.. guess they will know more when they get th rest of the starter out of the way.

Any idea what would cauzse this.

If I'm envisioning it right, I don't see how any of that will work. Sound like someone will have to weld the piece back on and then re tap or use the helicoil

Jure sounds like a manufacturer issue. I would take it directly to my dealer and have Yamaha take a look at it!

Well to clarify things, it appears that the starter was attached with a bracket. It was the bracket hole that was actually broken and fell out.that would be a simple fix EXCEPT it appears that a upper bearing failure was the cause of startet being ripped off. I guess bearing seized for a second and torqued it. A little metal in oil. I guess we are looking. At new block? Waiting on Yamaha.

Well upon further investigation it doesn't appear to be an upper bearing failure. Not really sure where the metal in oil came from. When turning the fly wheel it locks up in same spot every time. After checking multiple possibilities, they decided to just replace entire long block. Seems to be a most unusual issue.

Maybe i will be back in the water soon.
