Ok so who has tried both. And what were your results? What plugs did you have in prop? And shouldn't hole shot be better with the 21p? And What about a 22p or 23p?

I have a 2017 RT188C with 115 Mercury CT. I use a 23p Tempest with solid plugs and see 5400rpm and 46-47mph. It also wants to porpoise some with the higher trim. I usually don't run it full speed but when I do I wish it was was a smoother ride. I wonder if cupping the prop would help it stop porpoising? My hole shot is ok when by myself but is much slower when I have someone else with me.

Might be the weight from your 2 talons hanging off the back.

I thought of that too. Was hoping the cupped prop would help it. I just don't know anything about props.

So with the 21p do you see any loss with hole shot? Vrs. The 24p
My rt 188 came delivered with a 21p by mistake from Ranger. I haven't had a chance to run a 24p, but from what everyone else is reporting I don't think I am going to get it changed. Hole shot is great with my 21p. VesselView has me at 3.7 sec to 20mph on a fully loaded boat (no passenger).

I spoke to Ranger this past week and they said they are now shipping the 21P with the newer CT due to the RPM range change to 6300. He said the previous 115 PRO XS CT's range was RPM range was 6000. I'm only getting 5300 - 5400. I told him I purchased my RT this past April the dealer took deliver on the boat 3rd quarter of 2016. Told me to check my Merc manual I did and it stated 6300. So why did Ranger put a 24P on it to begin with? Doesn't make any sense. Anyhow, I have a 21P on order. Can't wait to compare the results.

How would you know if your engine is 6000rpm or 6300rpm max ?

I found it the Merc owners manual that the dealer gave to me at pick up. I believe it had all the 115HP listed and under the PROXS 115 CT it had stated max RPM 6300. Also, I had called Merc gave them my S/N# and confirmed 6300RPM.

On the swivel mount of the motor. There is a sticker, that has your ser# and the max rpm rating. Go by that. Instead of a manual if you can.

I'm almost completely certain that the non proXS models have always been 6000 max whether they have the standard gear case or the CT. The ProXS has always been 6300. I expect the person you were speaking to was confused between the CT and the ProXS CT

So I got my 21p tempest replacement prop from ranger. I took it out yesterday and I'm seeing 6100rpm's on the not so accurate dash gauge. And never had a top speed over 47.5 on gps. The hole shot is 100% better, gets you up and out quickly. And a mid throttle launch feels like your on a jetski, it jumps and goes. it does seem to be burning a little more fuel with the higher rpm's but the motor sounds like it's running smoothly at 6000+.

My old 24p tempest ran 5300 rpm's and had a top speed of 49mph on gps. My boat/outboard is at 22hrs dual console and a power pole.

5300rpm at 49mph doesn't sound quit right. Last night mine was doing 5700rpm at about 45mph (gps).

Wish I could post a video of it, if you have an Instagram search #rangerrt188 and you can see the GPS and rpm's on my video

First post sorry, but I had to state that I just took delivery of my 2107 RT 188c with the Mercury 115 Pro SX with the 23p aluminum prop, I took it out for break in for 2 hrs, myself with no gear except coast guard stuff, 5300 at 49 mph, so he might be correct. This is with the factory gauges though, no GPS yet.

My buddy just got an 18 ft Triton tin and we took it out for break in....after 2 hrs we decided to let her bark...Hydraulic jackplate, command thrust, 3 27 series batteries....Ultrex 112 on front...and a 24 pitch fury 4 blade...we got to 47 (we are both 250 lbs plus). insane holeshot and maneuverability....with that four blade you can run on pad with TH Marine Atlas all the way up in ultra shallow water...its awesome!

I have a 2018 rt 188 115 command thrust 21 tempest solid plugs 4 inch setback plate mounted on third hole .
Barely crack throttle you are on plane smooth as an electric motor. Merc doesn't have 10 hours on it but I am impressed 47 mph tach reads 6100 no porpoise at all . 47 mph is gps two 260 pound guys 1/2 tank fuel and lots of tackle.

Early 2018 RT188(July build) with the Merc 115CT and single console. Came factory rigged with the 21Tempest plus. Jumps on plane almost instantly, hits right at 6250RPM, 51.7Mph. awesome throttle response! 6300RPM is the motor rating, as my dealer pointed this out as well. Love the rig!
