Ok so I got me an original raker prop 24p. Same results. 59.7 with only 5000 rpms. I had tiny tach setup also so that rules out bad tach. Any more suggestions before I carry it to mechanic?

Are you running a Jack plate? If so bring it up 1/2" and see how it does.

I brought up to 3" below pad. WP was good at 25psi but prop was blowing out on holeshot.

A Raker will ventilate as if breaks over as you are coming out of the hole. That being said you are in the power band and the motor's HP is rated at 5000. Are you carrying BPS in you rig? And how is the weight loaded in the boat? The 285 is a little hot rod and one of my favorite in the Stratos line up to drive. Where about in AL are you?

Ok I'm going to try and readjust timing on motor. I read sticky and understand everything except for the throttle cable. Do I loosen the cable first and if so do I just take bolt off of the cradle? Not real familiar with that part. I was also wondering about the high/low settings? Would it help any to adjust the high setting towards the + a little farther?

Yes, remove the cable from the cradle and move the linkage then adjust the black trunion knob so it slips easily into the cradle. I wouldn't touch the timing if it is performing properly.

Ok so made small adjustment on throttle roller. 60mph. Rpm at 5100 WP still around 25psi. I ran out of trim and was getting in my tilt range. I would raise motor up a tad but holeshot blowout is awful so I'm satisfied with results

Just remember this Rubicon, it's middle of summer with 95+ ambient and 85% humidity. You will not get 5500 rpm from that carb motor now. My 2004 with 24 Raker might hit 5300 max with a light load this time of year, maybe. The time to really see what you can get out of it is in the fall with low humidity. My best height is 3 3/8" prop to pad.

Well low and behold I "RE"adjusted my throttle cables and hit 62.3 running 5350rpm with about 23psi WP. The simplest things huh. You guys brought it back to life. Thanks for the help.

Alright Rubicon, I re-read the entire thread and nowhere did you say what boat you are running. 62.3 at 5350 with a Johnny 150 and 24 Raker? Out with it, tell us the hull size and brand.

Thank you Rubicon, you have confirmed what my wife has maintained for 37 years, I'm a moron. Perhaps I too can hit 62+ in my 285 since I am on a weight loss plan.
