Chevrolet factory towing package wiring not hooked up?

Started to use my wife's 2016 Tahoe to pull my boat. Never used before, has factory towing package. Plugged into the wiring harness and no
lights. Friend said I had to take it to dealership to get "hooked up". He thought it was a relay or fuse or something they needed to install. Anybody
know what this is, and can I get it at the parts store and do it myself?

    TIA

I have a 2003 Silverado and had to put a large fuse in the block under the hood. I think I had stop/tail lights, and turn signal lights. Putting the fuse in got power wire working and maybe the brake control harness.

Yes the fuse has to be installed in the fuse panel under the hood. Owners manual explains how.

    Sounds like dealer time.
Must manufactures leave a fuse or relay or both unconnected but that is all I am aware of.

Usually it's missing relay.Ford does the same thing.I ordered mine online.Yes you can do it just like plugging into a wall socket,I couldn't find one for my Escape. If the dealer will do it for free go for that.I would only pay for the relay, some dealers are funny in Ohh We have to do it and try to tell you it may void the warranty ,if you do it your self.A good dealership will support the tow package fully. You can see the empty space were it should be.Just make sure you get the right one. Not all vehicles have the same configuration, even in the same model.

On my older Chevy, I had to connect a wire under the fuse panel to a provided 30 amp breaker. Check etrailer.com for videos.

My Ford was the Same way. The fuse was actually in a package under the seat. I wonder why if one gets the towing package they can't install the fuse???

I bought a new 2016 Sierra in December 2016 and I didn't have to do anything like that, in fact I took it home hooked up the boat and headed to the lake the next day.
