    1991 Pro V 150

    1991 Pro V 150

had not been run in about 7 months but treated the fuel before parking it.

    charged up all batteries.
pulled the drains on the carbs and drained any fuel in them.
pulled little fuel filter and drained it.
pumped fuel to system and got a good hard bulb.
started the motor on the muffs and it started right up.
took to the lake, unloaded, idled till good and warm.
took off and it jumped right up on plane.
ran around a little while at 3500 rpm or so, motor sounded great.
bumped her up to 4000 or so for a while, motor sounded great.
opened her up and she ran like a charm, ran WOT for a minute or 2.
Set the boat down and launched it again, ran great, ran it again a few minutes.
Went to the dock and picked up my daughter and went to take off again. just as the boat was breaking over i heard and felt a loss of power.
the boat planed out but would only run 4200ish rpm.
set it down and tried again, boat planed but really struggled, would only hit 2800 or so on launch, same 4200ish max while running.

loaded it up took to the shop and tinkered with it that evening and the next morning.
pulled all carb drains and main jets and sprayed carb cleaner up in them to kinda just wash em out
checked and cleaned small filter under the cowling
put new water separator/filter (the oil filter looking one) poured the gas out of the old one and it was dirty.
put new spark plugs in it.
while squeezing the primer bulb hard checked for any leaks, found none.

took to the lake and had similar results as the first trip,
ran great for a while, then won't hit max rpm's
idles great, runs smooth, runs good low rpm's just won't open up..

    now what??????

Dirty filter and loss of rpm makes me think you may have a fuel line collapsing at higher flows.

I have the same exact motor and have had this issue come up twice. Mine was fuel pumps both times. Good luck.

I have the same older motor just purchased as a spare boat and it has set for 4 years. Installed new battery and took it for a test run and ran very well. Plan on doing some high level routine maintenance on it. What size field lines and filters (#'s) should I use? What fuel octane can I run?

I have same motor sat for 4 years. Ran great on test ride changed fuel filter and added fuel treatment and some new fuel tanks were pretty full. I have issues getting on plane also. Where is the fuel pump and separator located?
