    2017 ZX225 Jackplate Setting

Hey guys, know this subject has probably been talked about extensively. Trying to figure out the right JP setting for this rig. All factory rigging with nothing extra. 5 dots showing from the dealer. Slidemaster manual JP with a 25-T2 prop.

    Thanks,
    kent

Doesn't really matter what dot it is on. RPMs and Speed is what matters. They typically come 7 dots, but mounting hole 5 dots can equal 7.

    Your Speed and RPM?

Motor is mounted third hole from the top. At 5 dots I could only get about 3/4 peddle to keep from maxing RPMs and I was only getting about 50 mph. I lowered to 3 dots. RPMs got better with about 5 mph increase in speed. If I go to 7 dots isn't that going to bring the RPMs back up?

Tach reading from guage? That Prop typically wont hit the limiter unless it is raised extremely high or it is a really bad prop, or you are running the boat very, very light in weight. Don't worry about hitting the limiter once or twice it wont harm the motor.

    Yes, that's from the gauge.

Your gauge is probably off, if you are turning over 6,000 and only 50mph.

I just got my 17 ZX225 a couple of weeks ago. 7 dots showing 3rd hole from top and 25T1. Still in break in but am turning 5750 rpm and running 69.5 mph. Added second power pole dual console and NMEA 2000 for motor use.

Sometimes I wonder if going to 6 dots/up for a full tank, pole(s) and maybe live well full w/the 25 T1 is actually best??
It should run max at 5,900, right?

    Anyone comment?
    Thanx

I'm in the breaking in stage too on my 2016 and I'm showing 7 dots. With 3/4 tank and all my gear, I was able to hit 70mph at 5900rpm on my 25 T1 then I pulled back.

Suggestion....opt for a hydraulic jack plate for optimum adjustment on the fly...love mine!

You need a bigger prop. The 25p T-1 is only good for break-in and extremely heavy loads. You will need a 26p after that.

This is the best option you could add to this boat.

No hydro plate needed. I got one, the boat is fast with it, but it is not needed. A properly worked 25T1 will do just fine on a manual plate. Also, I can only turn a 26 because I can run it high enough to spin. But in reality my slip numbers are much better with a 25 and a 25 is faster with two. A fully capable 25T1 that is hooked up and can turn 6200 will run a solid 76mph on these boats. Expect 1mph loss per 100 RPM loss from there. A well worked 25T1 turning 6,000rpms on the Bug boats is very capable of running 75.

BTW I have seen other posts about the 25T2 with very poor slip. These props are probably off out of the box.

Kent you can get a lot of good advise on how our boats run and what dot they are on but it all comes down to you, your load, weight distribution, your boat, your motor and your prop. None of these factors are the same for each of us. I came out of a 2013 FX20 that would not run over 72mph. I spent three thousand dollars trying to make it run faster Hydraulic jackplate, blueprinted and balanced prop, a couple of different props and it never happen. It was not in that boat set up to run more than 72mph. Now I'm in a 17 ZX225 that will run in the mid 70's straight from my dealer. Just be happy with your boat and the great ride that Skeeter has.
