I'd fish around the Stoddard Islands.

Do you have to have both state licenses? Wisconsin and Minnesota?

Only up to the first bridge on tributaries, sloughs, etc. past that you need a valid lisence for the state you are in.

AKA stay between the railroad tracks on both sides. Crossing under railroad bridges on either side gets you into Inland Waters where you'll need the license of the state you're in. 99.9% of the tourneys on the river are border waters only and have Inland Waters off limits.

Was just there for 5 days. Fishing was very tough for me, i know locals probably pounded them but the river was dropping, water was very dirty in a lot of places. I fished as far up as near the top of 7 to down into Minnesota slough. I caught fish each day, a number of small fish but never connected with anything over 3.5lbs in my trip. I can tell you if i could figure out how to catch the smallies i would never leave the main channel but i just cant seem to figure them out. oh well, part of the fun i guess.

Good luck, and be safe. I put a lot of idle time on my motor while locals were blowing over sandbars like nothing lol!
