Congratulations on your new fifth wheel. Montana's are often 14,000 lb. units plus weight of all owners' "stuff". I just hope you're the owner of a 1 ton dual wheel diesel truck to tow it with.

We just got in from a trip today in my mid size fifth wheel trailer--11K lbs. It's about all my 3/4 ton truck can handle with limited kingpin weight--even with AirBags on the rear of my truck.

I'm sweating bullets, we just bought a 38' 5'er and I get to pull it a ways this weekend with our 3/4 Duramax. Everything I've read says your good until you get 40' + and then you may need the 1 ton.

All the diesels have the power to tow, but single rear wheel tow trucks just don't have the rear suspension to handle heavy weights on the hitch.

My 3/4 ton has the heaviest suspension available (extra helper spring) and air bags to stop squatting, but it's still not close to having the weight carrying capability much over 2K. Many of the full size fifth wheels (and especially toy haulers) can push 4K lbs. on the truck bed after the trailer's filled with all the owners' "stuff", a fifth wheel hitch, a load of fuel and passengers.

I have to disagree. My 2500, after a little upgrades handles the weight of mine better than my 2016 3500 which handles it great.

Have an accident in a fifth wheel with king pin weight twice that of what the truck's rated for, and you may have serious legal problems. Those towing bigger fifth wheels and especially toyhaulers with single rear wheels often find themselves in this position--and may not realize it because they've never run across a certified truck scale.

Insurance companies are aware of this issue, too.

I'm not over any ratings on my trucks. That little sticker on the door means nothing after you change something. One might take me to court if God forbid an accident happened but the had better be prepared to prove that my rigs weight was the cause.

That was a good choice for a trailer that size.have seen a few Montana model you have escorting them to there site, all were being towed by dual wheel 1 tons.
