    AR 15 Practice Ammo

I just picked up my first AR 15. I got the Springfield Arms Saint. I am looking for advice on what practice ammo to purchase. I am only planning to use the gun for plinking targets 25 to 100 yards. I will be using the iron sights for now, and adding optics later.

Is using the Wolf or Tula steelcase ammo ok, or will it harm the weapon some how? Should I just stick to brass casings? I don't do any reloading.

Hard to beat Freedom Munitions. Have had great luck with their 55 gr. remans at about .29 per round.

Thanks CD. Just looked, and they have a 4th of July sale going on, with free shipping, and .2755 per round pricing.

I have shot thousands and thousands of rounds through a full auto AR Steelcase has caused no damage, other than stuck cases & broken extractors. Steelcase doesn't seem to conform to chamber as well as brass therefore you can get fouling in chamber. If using steel case clean chamber before switching to Brass.
When gun got hot steel case would stick bad. I switched to Brass case only for that reason. For practice shooting would have no problem using Steelcase.

Pretty good deal here. Swiss 5.56 62gr M855 with NATO headstamp in .50 cal can $299. This will be fairly hot ammo.

Academy Sports brand Monarch, never had a problem with the brass or the steel case. I just pick up a box or 2 every time I go visit.

I've got some of that but the cheapest I've seen is about $7.50 I think.

If you're shooting at any steel targets (including rifle rated & AR500), do not use XM193 or XM855. Both will damage the steel at <100 yards, and the steel core XM855 may even poke a hole through it. Deep dimpling cause a lot of splash back and injuries.

For plinking, I stick with Federal American Eagle AE223, Cap Arms 55gr reman, or sometimes Freedom Munitions (although I've personally seen several catastrophic failures with Freedom and JP barrels, primarily .308 but more .223 than statistically insignificant).
