I looked on the Merc website and it shows 15 1/4". What would cause one the measure 14 3/4".

The box says 15 1/4 but actually measure 15in... If rake and cup is added, The diameter reduces. Some props are cut down in diameter to reduce drag for more top speed, But then you generally loose a little of the other benefits like holeshot, load carrying, etc.
