I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. I remember when you could not see a block down the street because of air pollution. It had nothing to do with dinosaurs or volcanos.

Back when this whole global warming thing started making the news, (later changed to climate change because evidently the globe was not warming) I remember one of the scientists blaming some of the warming on cleaner air. (less particulate matter in the atmosphere)

Just like during the ice ages when particulate matter from erupting volcanoes or meteor impacts was in the air, it caused global temperatures to cool because less of the sun's energy was reaching the earth's surface.

Interestingly we were in what was termed a mini ice age in the middle 70's. Pretty much right about the time the air quality push started.

Of course I'm not silly enough to think that man's presence hasn't had any effect on global temperatures. Buildings, roads, and parking lots (among other things) are heat sinks. My thing about this whole global warming thing is they're blaming it almost entirely on greenhouse gases. Green house gases have been at higher levels far before mankind's presence would have had any affect.

According to a local entomologist and contrary to popular belief, extremely cold weather has no affect on the bug population in the ensuing warm months. None, NADA, zilch.
