Acetone. Put a bunch on & let it soak. Then scrape it off.

If it has hardened, the best thing I have found so far is lantern fuel and a razor scrapper if it is a smooth surface. If that's not the case or you don't care if the surface is scuffed, then you might try a stiff twisted wire brush on a grinder.
Speed cost money. How fast ya wanna go? I have done so much for so long with so little. I can now do the impossible with nothing!

It is not really necessary to remove every bit of the old glue down to slick gel. You want to remove any loose glue and bumps and all old carpet fibers. Easy Off extra strength oven cleaner works well to soften the glue so it can be scraped. Spray it on heavy and let it soaK for 15-20 minutes, then scrape.Best scraper to use is a 1" wide wood chisel and keep it sharp. Once it dulls it will start to ride up over the glue,a sharp edge will slice the glue right off without a lot of down pressure.
