I've used some teflon clear nail polish some to protect the finish on purchased lures. Would epoxy protect against chipping better?

Epoxy is harder and wears better. You do have to mix and deal with odor and st up times.

Epoxy, Devcon 2 Ton (30 minute), no odor.
Epoxy by far. You'll need the longer cure time (30 min, etex,...) and a turner to level it.

Most of the fly tiers have switched to the UV cure epoxy since you don't have to turn it and you can spot cure specific areas with the UV flashlight.

Devcon 2 ton 30 minute epoxy is better but requires more work. Sally Hansen hard as nails fingernail polish works great for quick jobs.
