New boat first trip to Marion/Moultrie

So I am heading to Florida on Thursday to pick up my new tome rig. It's a 2014 Ranger RT188 with a 115 Merc that has 38 hrs on it. I am new to the boat but have had boats in the past.

    Two questions....

Where on Marion/Moultrie would you recommend for me to scoot around to get used to the boat where going is pretty easy?

Second, where would you put in at?

if the area is also a decent fishing location, I may snoop around trying to figure out the electronics on the boat but I don't plan to do any fishing.

Taw caw creek or wyboo creek very safe . Just don't run the edges tight. Stay out in Middle good water depth.

Blacks Camp. Run up and down the Diversion Canal, follow the channel markers into Moultrie if it isn't rough.

I would stay off of Marion initially if you don't know the area.

+1 for Taw Caw, you can put in at the Taw Caw Camp or J.C. Land boat landing.

Taw Caw Landing or the public ramp on the way to Goat Island are much closer to I-95 then JCL landing.

I ended up putting in at Taw Caw. Nice ramp and decent area to scoot around. Wind was up so the big lake had some decent chop but it was good to get the boat out for 3-4 hours

Hey rx7, congrats on the RT188. I just got an RT178 and live in Summerville. I'm also looking for places to put-in in the area. Has anyone tried Cathead landing across Marion from Taw Caw?

Cat Head is a great area to fish. But you better know the area. Very stumpy. Eutaw reek has great water depth but the channel whines back and forth. And right on the points and edges are stumps. Very notice able when water level is down 3 feet. Mac for you I would start out in the Canal. Mill creek to the 95 bridge is a safe bet.

Hey G, thanks for the info. Is there a web site that tracks the water level of the lakes? Or how do you keep track of the water level? Are there stumps in the main lake or a channel to run on plane? I've never been on been on Marion or Moultrie so I've got a few questions. Thanks.

Hey rx7, I would definitely like to meet up sometime. I'm currently getting over some medical issue, but will give you a yell in a month or two.

MacGreer, as far as stumps...yup everywhere. I came out of the Taw Caw Creek to the main lake and just as you get to the mouth of the lake....3 big stumps stick out about 1 ft.
