3 Treble Hook Jerkbaits

Wanting to build up my jerkbait box but I'm not sure if we can use the triple treble versions here in Illinois. Anyone know for sure?

Technically a treble hook is illegal then. I've been throwing 3 hook jerkbaits forever in IL and never heard one person ever get in trouble.

I could very well be wrong, but I always understood that a lure (i.e. jerkbait, crankbait, popper, etc.) was considered one unit and even though it has multiple hook points it was ok.

The IDNR chief of fisheries (Dan Stephenson) advised me that yes, you can use triple treble hook jerkbaits here in Illinois.

The IDNR fishing laws leave some room to be interpreted however and that is good and bad. If you are throwing a 3 hook jerk bait and get a citation, I'd fight that in court any day and all day.
