    250 SHO POWER HEAD

THIS IS NOT A BASH ON YAMAHA. I LOVE MY SHO

I had many Mercury pro xs outboards and none of them made it 2 weeks with out some kind of breakdown and about every 100 hours I would blow a power head. My Yamaha 250 SHO has been 10 x's better then any Mercury I ever owned but, at four years of age and 262 hours I did blow a power head. It was my first any ONLY Issue with my Yamaha 250 SHO.

MY QUESTION IS HOW LONG DID YOU GUY'S GO OR HAVE GONE WITH OUT BLOWING A POWER HEAD ON A 250 SHO????

I had almost 500 hours on my 2011 when I traded it in a month ago. I only had two issues with it the whole time I owned it. 1. The lower unit locked up on me and was warranty replaced and 2. the high pressure fuel pump when out and was warranty replaced.

Two years and around 230 hours so far. Did have an issue with the lift pump though. My brother has a 2011 that had an issue with water in the crank case with less than 200 hours and way out of warranty. Yamaha agreed to replace the power head.

The one i had was a early production model 2010 250 SHO. 3 power heads. None made it more than a 100 hours. All seem to be bearing related. A known problem for early production models.

Cracked port side head on 2014 250 SHO at 250 hours. Currently have 190 hours on replacement engine, fingers crossed. Only issue I have had.

2011 225 SHO .... Cracked starboard head @ 360 hours - it was the 2nd (3rd? I bought it used) time it'd blown. IMHO I would not buy a pre 2013 SHO under any circumstances - regardless of price / new powerhead under warranty etc.

(and I just hung a new 2020 SHO so I love the motor)
