27 Pitch Prop for 200 Elite?

2008 Champion 200 Elite, 2008 Mercury 225 Optimax Pro XS, Dual Talons, 3 Group 27's, 10" Bobs Hydraulic, 26 pitch 4 Blade Trophy Plus. Best I could get was 60-62 WOT at 5800 rpm. I want to stay with a 4 blade because I fish a lot of Lake Michigan connected waters and Lake St. Claire. I read the other posts and decided to call Rothwell Marine and order a 25.5 Bravo I XS. I was told they don't carry the half sizes anymore and if I ordered one they would not honor it for exchange.

So I asked what they recommended. He took my information to their prop guy, and he recommended a 27 pitch Bravo XS. Well it's on it's way, is this too much prop for my boat.

Wonder why they recommended I go higher. Do you think a 25 would work?

If you're fishing big/rough water primarily, top end would be the last of my concerns. I would go with a 25/26 trophy or the biggest pitch high five.

Yes 25 is what I'm running on same boat/motor. Not super fast but will run 68-70

Not that worried about top end, but I would at least like to get mid to upper 60's which is very doable. I have a 26 Trophy on it now.

12ft Talons. The Trophy Plus is not a bad prop for the boat, hole shot and midrange is good it's just a slug on top end.

25 is all you need. Buddy of mine has a Bravo and it does great. 68 loaded heavy with 2 grown men and a boy.

I'm not even going to take the 27 out of the box, exchanging it for a 25.

I hate numnutz parts guys. They have a book and whatever the book says is gospel.

That motor likes six grand and if you're running big water the last thing you want is a slug on holeshot or acceleration. Now you're gonna drop another two hundred rpms and lose your zip.

27 is too much. you will run about 5200 to 5400 rpm's with that prop. 25 should work perfectly and take it to about 5800 to 6000. I have a 206CX and the 26P Trophy plus tops out at 5500 and I have just switched to the 25 and sometimes I hit 6000. perfect!

Personally, I would even consider a 24" TR04. Test it and get some data, and send it to Croxton. You might get away with a 25...but 27 is WAY too much.

I have a 25 Bravo I XS on the way, going to try to refuse shipment when the 27 shows up to avoid paying shipping again. I will see how it runs then send it to Mark to work his magic if needed.

Reviving this thread. When I first put the Bravo on my boat back in July, I was so upset. No hole shot, no midrange punch, a total slug on top end, couldn't dial in the PVS with plugs, something was not right.

Took the boat in and found out I had a bad coil and was only running on 5 cylinders. New coil, new plugs, new impellor and $700 dollars later motor is running great. First time out with the Bravo XS, Hole shot 1 sec, unbelievable - 2 solid and 2 large opening plugs, midrange punch would throw you back in the seat, went way over the limiter before I noticed it and backed it down. At 6200 rpm I saw 65 mph and still climbing.

Sent the Prop off to Mark Croxton, who added cup and pitch. Just got the UPS alert that the prop is delivered. I am excited to try this prop.

You said that you were over the limiter and backed out. Usually if you are over the limiter the motor will beep and cut out. Are you sure your tach is working? What is your prop to pad measurement currently? My 200 is happier with the Bravo if I move the motor up. I think that I'm at 3.25".
