    Markup on New Bass Boats

Haven't purchased a new boat in years and seeing if any of you negotiated on boat and motor separate or as a package and how much percentage was there in savings?

From experience, the "bundled" price is cheaper. Basscat can puchase a Yamaha SHO for a lot less than I can.

Same thing with graphs, power poles, trolling motors, etc. Depending on the boat/manufacture/dealer you can save a good chunk.

I may just order with the outboard and buy PP, Graphs, and Troller later. Don't know the rigger anyways at the place I'm ordering and some of these riggers really can make a mess of things.

On cars I typically shoot for 10% off sticker and trucks 15-20. Maybe i'll start with 15%.

I think thats pretty optimistic...not impossible on a non current model maybe, but I'd be surprised if you were able to pull 15% off a new model.

Much better approach. Dealers offer crap discounts on these items. Better to get them from the web and have the factory or dealer install them for you. If they F- it up then, they fix it when it breaks.

Just got 2 prices....6,000 difference at the start and 4,500 at the end. Best deal came down 2% from start. Could have it within 4 weeks if I order now.....

Did you order a Falcon 205? If so where is the nearest dealer?

I bought my tin bass boat that way. Hull first with electronics. Then new motor 3 years later. If you add it up its the same price you can buy one for today. SO NO

If it was 30% Ranger Rodney would have retired many years ago.

If you get a brand that will rig it all at the factory, so so. It's cheaper, usually. Mine came with everything but batteries and fishing gear Oh...and a transom saver.

Saves dealer charges for rigging, and GENERALLY speaking, it's easier for the factory to pull all the necessary wiring, tubing, cables, etc. when they are putting the whole package together. Of course, some boat manufacturers might not offer the choice of engine you prefer. BassCat will hang just about any engine on the back, though they specialize in Merc and Yammies. You'll pay more for the Yamaha 4 stroke than the Merc 2 stroke.

I just tried to buy one that as marked down right after 15% because it was a new 2016. I dabbled another 5% in front of them and they basically said no. That leads me to believe that 15% was their bottom. Now that doesn't mean that's cost - it might, but it might mean that's where they think it'll sell. I just don't understand why they'd let $3000 lose a sale on a 2016 with 2018 peaking around the corner.

It is in respect to bass boat margins for dealers, which is why they passed.

I guess car dealerships have just given everybody the wrong impression of what to expect from other industries. To me $3,000 on a high 50's price is not much to ask for an initial offer from dealer posted price on a boat fixing to be 2 years behind current. But it does lean to the point that they don't have more than 15%. The boat was also bare with zero add on's so the margin was even lower. I'm sure the dealers need to 'extras' to help with margins.
