Good advice above. One thing I want to add is that I think you should never fish mono that's been on a reel that long. It breaks down with sunlight, temperature changes, etc. Heck, I have a hard time fishing mono that's been on a reel more than a month, though a bad experience or two with old line has probably made me hyper sensitive to that type of thing.
Your mileage may vary, obviously, but if you're noticing it acting different than it did when it was new, then definitely time to replace!
