I'm on a team this year and have done a couple years in the past. I haven't been active at all with it this year though as far as loading fish. It's a good one if you just want to track your fish but don't really care about winning anything. My experience has been that most of the teams that win are made up of Guides and your score will likely not even equal half the number of points that you amass throughout the year. I'm on the NCKA Team (NorCal Kayak Anglers) again this year. They generally win everything in their division. The funny thing about that is the prizes never seem to show up. I know there is supposedly a new group running it this year so things may change but that is to be seen. If you get in on the registration when it first opens it's usually free for the first few days.
Kayak Bass Fishing runs online events in each state or when there aren't enough participants from a single state they will combine states into a region. They also have come up with a "regional scoring adjustment" that allows states with traditionally smaller average bass to compete with states such as California, Texas, and Florida. There is a $50 membership fee per year to fish with KBF and if you want to enter Bonus Bucks (optional) it's an additional $100. They are the BASS of the kayak world at the moment with no real competition on the Nation wide scale. I've won a fair amount of money and prizes with KBF over the last 6 years and they are a stand up group of individuals and are fun to fish with. There are a number of events and challenges each month to compete in including a night event on the last weekend of each month.
National Bass League also runs month long online events. I've won a few of their big fish events and haven't had any problems with getting paid. That's another group to look into.
So I could do KBF from South Dakota?

Most certainly! All the states were offered to have their own monthly challenge series where you would only fish against other anglers from your state. The states that didn't reach the minimum number of anglers to have their state "division" (which I think was 10 anglers) were then lumped with other states in their region or with similar fish size/length characteristics. For the month long state challenges you only fish against others in your state/region. For nationwide challenge events they use the regional adjustment factor to make things a little more fair.

Y'all see it's $200 to enter Ike's proam event even in the kayak division? That seems high to me(for a kayak entry) or is that normal for the bigger events where you can get a berth in the world championship?

The 2018 Kayak Bass Fishing National Championship event has a $300 entry but you're fishing for a guaranteed first place prize of $100,000!!
I love how this is taking off. I'm guessing these big money events are ones where everyone shows up at the lake like a regular "big boat" tournament? (not an online event)

Yeah, the big money events are generally live. The National Championship this past year was on Kentucky Lake out of Paris, Tennessee (and will be again for 2018). There were around 370 anglers that fished the event there. It was a little crazy as it was really hard to get away from people regardless of where you went to launch. Many of the big events are "open launch" tournaments. The organizers establish boundaries on the particular body of water and then you're able to launch where ever you want within those boundaries to fish. It allows the competitors to spread out a bit more and brings in another element of skill in being able to search for your own fish that others may or may not find during the tournament. I believe my wife and I traveled the farthest to attend the National Championship this past year. We drove 37 hours from Northern California to attend it. I can't wait to do it again next year!!
Online events are gaining in popularity too though. The KBF Challenge series has a points race that goes along with it. The top 100 anglers in points will be able to compete in an end of year event for $10,000 this year!
Wow, 37 hrs. That is dedication! Great info and thank you very much. I've been wondering about a new path to start down since I gave up boat tourneys. I'll prolly watch, read, and learn this year and sign up next spring. I still have to get my new yak outfitted and slimed.

The kayak tourneys can be just just as "bad" as the boat tourneys. Addictive, competitive, expensive, etc! You can make it as serious or as relaxed as you want. It seems that the kayak community tends to be more helpful to each other than the boat world though.
I like the idea of a month long tourney that I can fish 2 or 3 hrs at a time. I've often thought about doing that with big boats, organizing my own cash tourneys on the sly that only last around 5 hrs. The ones I used to fish would take up a whole weekend and just dominate my summer. After 15 years of it I just didn't want that anymore.

When I fished boat events we had the working mans series in the summer usually on Wednesday or Thursday evenings. They started at 5:30pm and went until 9:30pm. They were fun events that generally had a $30 buy in and paid out the top three spots plus big fish. It was good for a few bucks and fed the competitive craving that I had in between weekend events.
