    When does it stop?

Recently upgraded to two HDS9s bow and console. Have been out a couple times, do I need that second 9 on the console? With Crabela's having them for $800, it's getting easier to justify and I can really see the advantage of charting on one whole screen and downscanning on another.

Was wondering if I could get by cheaper with a Gen 2. In the past I've done this kind of corner cutting only to go back to the original, better, more expensive option.

With a gen3 already at the console to add a gen2 is not a big deal. I run 1 gen2 off a gen3 at the console and there is no reason for me to upgrade that gen2 right now at all. The gen3 is nicer of course but I run map and 2d on my gen2 and rarely zoom in or out from like 200-500ft distance with it. I use the gen3 unit for full map when running around and zoom that one in and out from 1/4 mile to 1 mile. Then I switch it to structure scan when idling and do all my work off that unit. If it's a minor price difference like 200 bucks then go gen3. But if you are talking like 500 or even 1k difference like the hds12s are then stay gen2.

A gen 2 will do the mapping 2d just fine. Use the gen 3 for your imaging

Gen 2 Touch. If it's not a "touch" unit you will need the structure scan box...I think.
    Can someone else confirm please?

Just don't go buy 4 large graphs and fish docks all day or beat the bank. I am fine with one at console and one at ft. and they are 5 inch graphs. I know I am old school but I wish I had an in dash 1240A
