    Question Oil leaking from motor

I may be asking a dumb question here but yesterday I replaced the lower unit on a motor that has been sitting for about a year. The guy I bought the bought from told me he had the motor overhauled about a year ago and then right after that blew the lower unit and got tired of messing with it.

Long story short, I got a 21' champion with a Mariner 200 hp with no lower unit for $2000. Bought a new SEi lower unit and installed it yesterday. Motor fired right up and everything sounds good. But... Today when I went to look at the motor I noticed a small bit of oil that was sitting in the little cutout above the transom. Is this something to be concerned with or is it normal? It wasn't much oil. I would say a tablespoons worth.

Might not be a serious problem. The oil tank under there could be leaking a bit, and having been set up for a while, some accumulation. Take the cover off, look for leaks, drips. Clean it up under the cover with some spray engine cleaner and see if the problem comes back. I have a 150, and sometimes have the same isssue...BF

Thanks for the info. I will do that! I'm really hoping that this all works out. $2,000 was a steal!

Please see the Forum Announcements, and be sure to provide the REQUIRED info. Thanks!

Will need to determine what type of fluid this is- Gas, Oil, Steering Fluid, etc.
