I run a 21 pitch Tempest with all the PVS plugs removed on my 225 this time of year on the O. Top speed is 57 mph but a rocket out of the hole!

Same Q as OP BUT -
if you have a hydraulic plate, what do you do with it and any difference in regard to how shallow compared to a fixed JP?

1.5 with the jack plate all the way up. I really don't have a hole though, it just picks up and takes off.

I am like Alli SS. My boat barely lifts the bow anymore. I put 2 of the smallest hole vent plugs in and now it shoots out of the hole without lifting the bow. The boat pretty much just rises out of the water going forward. No Jack plate. I have not tried in less than 5 feet, but I don't think I would have any problem if I went down to the Potomac and pulled out of the grass flats with 3ft or so. I would not have tried it in less than 4ft though with my old Astro.

Usually 5' if the area is clear of bottom debris like wood and rocks. I've smashed a couple props and lower units less than that so I try to have 5' at a minimum.
4 to 5 foot.
Soft bottom 4'
Hard bottom 5'
Hmmmmmm........1.5 on the depth finder..........Mississippi backwaters requires it.......
3'.....and i turn hard left and close my eyes until up hoping for no stumps. ;)
Shallowest I've done it was in about 2.5' on the graph and I wasn't worried. I don't think my boat squats at all, if it did, it'd sink, the back sits low enough as it is. 4 blade prop I'm sure helps
