    Powell Frog Rod Suggestions

I am still in search of a frog rod. I have primarily all 3Ds now, with a couple Nusance rods. My primary frogging is sparse vegetation, going down the bank fishing targets. I do some, but little "mat fishing." I've tried the 714, the 704, the 703, and don't like any of them. My choice right now might be a 734. My issue with most frog rods is that they don't have enough tip for making accurate casts with various weight frogs. I think the 735 "frog" rod is too heavy for target fishing and is more of a mat fishing rod. I might be wrong.

Endurance 714 is a good one for that type of frogging if you can find one. I'll agree that the max 3d 714 is not a good frog rod.

Inferno 734 has a good tip on it. I think it's more giving than the max 3d 734. Also the inferno 725 would be good or even the 765 utility rod. It has a fast tip instead of xfast and is pretty soft. The old max 734 is a great choice as well. That's what I use for frogs in thinner grass

I use the older Powell Max 705. The 734 , for me, is to long for accurate casting. It would work great for open water otherwise.

I just &^%$# sold a couple of those and wish I hadn't. I have a 3D 734 on order, have the Nusance 734 and it's pretty stout. Too many nice rods in different lines.

The 725 Inferno is what I throw my frogs on. Pretty stout rod but not to long to cast in tight places.

I throw my frogs currently on my Powell Max 765sb. Stout backbone with lighter tip....for a 5 power.

Are you fishing hollow body or horny toad type frogs. I have all of those rods you mentioned. I will use a 734 if I have to, but I use a dobybns 734 for horny toad like frogs and it is amazing for that style of fishing. I am going to get a sierra series 704 just for that application only. But to answer your question, a 734 Max 3D will get it done, but there are better choices.

What are those better choices? I'm fishing hollow bodied frogs. I like having all 3Ds but there are different rods in the other lines that I like too. I find myself reaching for that 734 for a lot of different techs but know it's probably not the best for all. I bought an Inferno 703 and thought it would work, but felt it was way too light. maybe it really was what I was looking for. I used to use the Rojas Quantum frog rods and they were just regular MH rods and they worked fine with braid. Now I'm trying to complicate things.

Meant better choice for those applications than 3D. It s a little stiffer and doesn't cast a toad as well i tight spaces.
