    Carpet install? No template

So I started ripping up the old carpet on my 99 nitro 640lx and sure enough it didn't come up as one piece but thousands since it was so old and weathered. What's going to be the easiest way to make a template I had considered maybe some kind of stuff painters lay down like cloth or vinyl just to get the shape of mine. Any easier ways to go about doing it?

    Cardboard should work.

Brown paper could be easier to work with.

I rough cut mine then final cut when I am laying it down. Be sure all the carpet goes in the same direction, I usually mark arrows on the back to indicate the front of the boat. This way all the carpet on the lids and everythig goes the same way as you will notice a box lid if the carpet is layed a different way than the rest.

Get heavy rosin paper from a local home improvement store. It is heavier than normal paper (good for tracing around as a template), dimensionally stable, easy to cut, tape sticks to it, can be written on with pencil or marker, and is fairly cheap.
