Any Skeeter guys currently have a Wrangler?

I am looking at getting and restoring a Wrangler HP 150. I think they made them from about 75 to 86. I think they are the absolutely best looking boats from back in the day. Rated for a 150 and I think they only weigh 975 lbs. dry hull. What were or are any of your experiences with them? Any pics? thx.

Re: Any Skeeter guys currently have a Wrangler? (mtst4)

I just sold mine about a week ago had it for about 12 years was my first boat I owened.I bought and sold 2 other boats while I owned this one,It was payed for so I just kept it around and it was very dependable if I needed a ride. The only dislike I had about it was if 2 guys wanted to fish not much room for any gear no storage but all in all I hated to see it pull out of the drive way.

I still have my Wrangler... It's a HP-120 with a Mercury 115 on it. It is a 1985 and still runs strong. I don't have a picture of it on here yet but it is on Skeeter boats website under photos. I an currently re-carpeting it. I wouldn't take for it, It has been a good boat.

    Wrangler...wow

    I had a 1984 HP120 with Yam 115 from 1987-2000 and it was a super rig...
I mean super, stable at 55mph and the best rig under 16 feet I ever saw or heard of...
sold it for $3,500 and got a ZX200, then another ZX200 in 2007 and now a new ZX170 w/4 stroke this month...

As they say, "they don't make them like that anymore"...
as far as a 15 ft with 115hp model goes...my new ZX170 is 16-8 and max HP is 90, what gives with that in 2011 when a 115 would really scoot?...too bad.

I had a red over silver metalflake HP150, was a 78 or 79 model. I forget, loved that boat, it was my 1st boat also, kept it for 7 years, traded it in on a new 1986 stratos, still miss it

    I had a 1984 baby Wrangler w/115...owned it 16 years!
Talk about stable...wow...took it to Mexico and Toledo Bend...

It was the only bass rig at 15 feet which took 115hp...due to its massive beam.

I had a 78 Wrangler with a 78 Merc 150. It was my first real bassboat back in 1988. I won all kinds of tournaments in that boat after I redid all the trolling motor wires for a 24v system. One time in Sept. 1993 out on Lake Erie a hurricane Andrew spinoff storm caught our whole tournament out on the water. Everybody lived but 17 boats sank, some never to be seen again. I watched 20 foot boats tumbling in the 16 foot waves (8 footers from the South smashed with 8 footers out of Canada piled up like mountains). My little Wrangler bobbed and weaved in and out of the swells and I only had about 3 miles left to go. That old Merc had been running for about 3 hours and had sucked about all my gas up so I had to get in a little faster before I ran out of gas. That was a mistake because I went up a wave and flipped the boat onto our backs. 2 hours later we floated to shore and dragged the boat up on a beach. I spent the insurance money remodeling the boat and kept it about 3 more years. After that storm I put a 5 blade prop on. I know I would have made it back in that storm if I had that prop on that day. Mark

I had a 77 Wrangler, it came with a 140 hp Johnson. I blew the number 1 cylinder 3 times in 13 months. Put one of the first V6 175 hp Mariners on it. It was a beast for it's day until you tried to turn at speed. Finally someone taught me how to break it loose and cross it up in the turns, much like a dirt bike. Stopped the hopping in the turns and scared the crap out of a lot of people.

Yeah, you could never get back to the dock because that meant you had to turn it.

My First bass boat was a Wrangler with a Black Max 150 it was quick but really got loose at about 55 mph the nose would be doing a circle. At the time I didn't know enough about how to handle it or I would have known it was about to go air born. Those were the good old days. Mine was silver over red

    We had a 78 wrangler 150iirc. Wasn’t very stable.

I’d pick and early starfire over a wrangler any day unless you are dead set on the wrangler looks(to me a starfire looks better anyway?)

I have a 83 wrangler hp 150 with 84 black max on jack plate. Absolutely love this boat, will do 61mph on gps with 4 blade prop, comes all the way up on pad and won’t fall off. Very stable and smooth. Tourney fish against big new boats all the time and have no trouble hanging with them. But, just noticed that my transom is mush and I’m heartbroken, not sure if I should fix and keep? Fix and sell? Or just sell? Need advice
