I think I am going with an AXIOM 7 RV for the Hobie. Just waiting for a mount, so I assume I will be graphless this season, and I am ok with that.

Objects not on the bottom, could be fish or brush piles, use it with the side/down and 2D to find the fish!
It gives another prospective of the bottom!

Hickory is correct, RealVision 3D will show EVERYTHING as a "dot". SideVision and/or Sonar help identify those targets. Think of each view as a piece of the puzzle. The more pieces, the more you see the big picture.

    It can be about anything.

But, in mine you can see grass in the down and side, the 3D showed me exactly where on that creek edge the grass was.

is the new RV transducer theyre using a lowrance clone or is it their own design? similar 455 and 800 performance of a Lowrance?
also, someone mentioned that the Axiom cant do sonar recordings?

No, the RV-100TM is a propiatary Raymarine product. No clone here, as it does Realvision 3D/Sidevision/Down vision 2D/Chirp Sonar from one transducer without the need for an additional module/black box. 3D/Side/down after powered by the 350 khz that chirps + -30. The regular Chirp Sonar is a 25° cone powered by a center freq of 200 khz that swings + - 30 khz. There is a screenshot thread in this forum, so you can make an educated decision. I'm quite pleased with my Axiom 9 RV.

All 4 channels chirp, to provide the best image possible.
Also, here's the screenshot thread ⤵⤵⤵
