16" Lowrance HDS on Precision Mount

Installed a HDS 16 Carbon on our Precision Sonar Console Mount on a 721 today and the look was super impressive.

Our Precision mounts are adaptable for the Mega Sized Lowrance and Humminbird screens.

FYI ... I used my Carbons recently for a week of when I was fishing Sturgeon Bay and the Speed, Brightness and the Graphics were real impressive.

It will be interesting to see if the 16" model will replace some of the duals console units that are out there.

    Here are some pics.

Maybe run a smaller one. Dual is better to me. Jacob wheeler had a good point why he runs duals cause his left unit is set to 100 and right unit set to another 100 giving him a lot more view. I think I'll end up with dual Garmin s

I've seen A. Martens run his duals with one unit having a map and whatever and the other unit with the top half looking one way and bottom half looking the other. He said he looks for stuff and then changes to di and goes over it to really see what's there

Quite some time ago someone posted a screen size comparison chart with pixel count. I would be interesting to add these new displays to that chart for comparison. Might answer the question "is there more "real estate" on a 16 versus two 9;s? The problem with the 12 that I have is when you start splitting the chart 4 ways. You lose a lot of vertical resolution. The increased pixel count on the new carbon units may make that a moot point. The big vertical pixel looser in the old series was the nine and is why so many treasure their 8's. But as I understand it the new 9 carbon has made up for it with more pixels.

    sorry for the ramble

I played with the pixel counts this morning and decided that splitting the HDS 16 Carbon into 4 equal screens gives you a close total display equivalent of four stacked HDS 9 Gen 3 units.

Not bad at all and would seem to be very usable.

I was surprised that the HDS 12 Carbon pixel relationship was unchanged from the HDS 12 Gen 3.

The big winner seems to be the HDS 9 Carbon. Its 1280 x 720 screen is a massive improvement over the HDS 9 Gen 3's 800 X 480 screen. It must be the sharpest display of the entire Carbon series. I would love to see one on the water.

With those 16's no need for a windshield. They should put a little swoop on the top to make it more aerodynamic
