I would call the place you ordered your boat and tell them you want a smart craft gauge. That way it's there when you get your boat.

Contact Don Weed at European Marine. He set me up with everything I needed and then let me call him and he walked me through making all of the connections.

That's great to hear! I sent Rhonda an email but will give them a call today to see exactly what I need. Which monitor did you go with?

All I want it rpm and hours, maybe water pressure. From what I've read the level will do that, correct?

You'll want more info once you start using it! Get a level 1 from Don. I would however have the data cable run while it is being rigged so all you have to do it hook up the Mercmonitor. It should not be much...

Don't just ask for a smartcraft instrument becuase that is a whole series of instuments. That is like asking for a "Toyota." You might get a Tundra TRD Pro or a Prius. You need to be specific.

There is one in the miscellaneous for $150. It's a good deal. It comes with the data cable. I have the square one in my boat it gives me all the info I need.

I went with a Level1. That was the one that had all of the functions I was looking for and I can display all of that information on my Lowrance HDS12 at the console. I have water pressure, fuel, oil and water temp, RPM, GPS speed, trim. Just about anything you'll ever need to monitor. Below is what I got.

ML1MMK-Level One MercMonitor KIT, packaged components with 20' Data Cable & Junction Adapter ONLY.

I had a Smartcraft Systems Monitor (small square display) for about 3yrs. Though functional it sure left a lot to be desired. It will display exactly ONE data item at a time and must scroll through monitored data one at a time to get the ONE data item you want to see. Want to see oil pressure, engine temp, and rpm at same time? Not happening. A Mercmonitor will let you create custom tri-data screens for the info you want to see. I have several screens set on auto scroll and I really like that feature.

    ^^^^

The ECO feature provides instant MPG which I find more useful than GPH.

I wired mine into gps NEMA 0183 output so get mpg from it also. The fuel flow is excellent more accurate than any of my vehicles for fuel used.
