1997 225 MARINER/PROMAX WHAT DO I NEED TO LOOK FOR ?

Going look to buy a 225 mariner promax tomorrow . Im a mechanic by trade but not to much on outbaords. Ive been having a johnson venom 200 on my 93 bullet forever. Got the promax fever bad right now. What do i need to look for when buying this thing ? Buddy of mine that has some knowledge in them said look for any holes repaired in the block near the intake ? And to mic the cylinders out ? The guy said it just had a burnt piston and said he went through the engine . Said he bored that one cylinder to 15 over and put a mercury piston in it . Anything else i need to look for when i go look at the promax tomorrow ? Also if someone could give me the specs on the cylinders that would be great also .
