    Spring fishing

Water levels have been fluctuating by about a foot week to week. Temps have been very slow to rise. And I caught a 18 in rainbow in about a foot of water on a jig
    It's been very strange. ...

In the past, we usually see lots of beds by now, not this year. They are still staging. Caught some nice fish, but hogs are still holding back. Water temps are all over the place. 67 in isolated coves to 55 at the inlets. Water level top off yesterday at about + 9 inches. But more rain coming tomorrow. Lake should be just peaking when I get back from the rally.

It definitely has been a weird spring so far. I was able to hit the largies pretty hard on beds locally last weekend on Sunday. Two days before that on Friday, my buddy and I hit Newfound and caught 40 fish, four over 4 lbs with my biggest at 4-12. They were definitely in prespawn mode. I went back today and they were barely just getting started on beds, they weren't hitting much of anything. I did manage just a couple off of beds, but the rest were sporadic catches all over the damn place. Saw some biggens cruising, but they were doing just that. Water temp was still the same too, 55 when we got there, and topped out at 61 by the end of the day. Everything is wicked far behind.

Just getting back from Crystal lake.. seen a dozen or so beds. Same thing they seem to be behind.
Not a bad day. We. Caught maybe 20 Small mouth with the best about 4 pounds. Only 3 or 4 large mouth with a 3 pounder being the best.
Sure was nice to get out there

I was on Moore Dam yesterday and saw one bed. Water temps 66-68 average and one spot 70. Anything of size was in deeper water.

Last weekend on Lake Wentworth was nothing but bed fishing. Strange spring to say the least.

That's a good one...did the same thing throwing a spinner bait in Maine last week, tossed it next to a rock in 12" of water, smash 18" Trout.

That seems warm for the Moore Dam with the weather we have had.

Saw very few bass close to shore this weekend. Water rose 6" from sat till today and I think that screwed them up some. Caught some nice ones but not what I was expecting. Good thing we slammed some monster crappies or else all the kids at camp would have had a real bummer of a fishing weekend...

I caught a sucker fish about 16" long on a swimbait yesterday on Newfound. THAT was weird. Fought pretty good though, thought it was a trout at first.

I don't know what it is about that place with as big as it is and as deep it is it's always warmer than any place else. I was on Tarleton Thursday knight and it was 60.

There were quite a few on the beds on Conway this weekend. Had relatives visiting that don't really fish, was able to put them on some decent fish.

Hit Winni Sunday. Some smallies were locked on pretty good and others were fleeing, even when we would stay back. Lots of beds were empty, almost like they moved up and left them with the cold front.
Water temp was 59 to 63...depending on main lake or coves. Saw some largies cruising but only one on a bed.

Never saw any water near those temps...but I fished mostly mid lake/main lake waters. I am guessing Lees Mills area is warmer.

Lost one on BIP today that was bigger than the big one I caught earlier this season. It was like a tv moment, fish came off right at the boat, went through my hand and swam away.
