2003 evinrude ficht 250hp cutting out

Hi all, I just purchased a 2003 Ranger 521vx with a 250 evinrude on it. First trip out it ran fine the first run, then made a few small runs fine. Going to leave it started fine, but as soon as I hit the hotfoot it cut right out. It did this countless number of times. It starts and idles fine, but shuts right down as soon as you try to go. Also I had to keep pumping the ball in the back every time I went to restart it. Lastly I noticed I was able to hit the gas if the motor was trimmed up and it stayed running, didn't seem to really have much power, but it did run. Enough at least for me to get it on the trailer once I limped in. I will be taking it to the shop, but they cant get me in for 2 weeks, just thought someone may have some suggestions for me to lead me in the right direction. Thanks

No check lights on the display? It could be anywhere from a bad TPS, a bad lift pump, to a bad injector or two. Did you try the other tank?

Sure, anything is possible, get you a new BRP bulb 3/8" bulb and install it. Pop your cowl off an look for leaks when you pressurize the system when you pump the bulb and turn the key on.

You may want to pull the fuel filter and see if it is full of small black particles. If the fuel line is original it may be coming apart inside as a result of the ethanol fuel we have to use these days.
