    2004 Evinrude 225HO compression

    E225FHLSRM.

I have looked through my service manual and cannot find any spec for compression on this motor. I realize that each gauge reads a little different and that the cyls should be less than 10% difference.

    So I have two questions:

    1. What is a good compression number.

    2. Using a leak down test what would be the largest number you would consider good.

    Best Regards and Thanks

I saw that ad and thought the same thing but it is not the same motor as I am asking about. I am sure there has to be a baseline where the compression is deemed to be acceptable or where you need to run from it.

110 to 120 would be good # for that engine.

Brand new I had 130 on mine. After 1800 hours I have 120 give or take 2-3 in a few cylinders. Make sure you run the engine to operating temps first like the manual says before testing. If I test mine cold the numbers are lower.

Compression numbers are not posted in any manual.
