How often do you grease your SHO

I find myself needing 3 or pumps of grease after nearly each trip out. Do you guys normally grease your motor this much. Everything is working properly, it just seems excessive. Where does it even go

    Short answer. No

I grease annually or at 100hrs, which ever comes first.

    What fitting are you greasing?
    What grease are you using?

The one that seems to take the most is the one on the right hand side looking at it from the rear. It appears to go in around the shift linkage or have to deal directly with the steering

That doesn't sound right. Is there a reason you are doing it so much? I have greased mine once since new and will do it at 100hrs again. I do grease the trim rams pretty often.

If it is the one that greases your steering bracket, it is not sealed, and grease will pump out the bottom.
Other than 100hrs, Trim rams about 3x per year

There are 3 or 4 fittings i hit with 4-5 pumps of grease between every trip. Makes steering and trim much easier. Plus everything will last longer. Every 100 hrs you might as well not even grease it thats waaaay too long

It does indeed pump out the bottom, there is a type of seal or almost washer looking pieces that it oozes out around. Currently it's working properly but I guess that is something to watch closely.

According to my 250 SHO Owners Manual "Greasing Points" Greasing is performed at the initial 20hr service and every 100hr/Annually. Page 70 for my motor.

In the OP's situation I think he is filling the fittings, as they are used the excess grease is expelled into the water. Upon return he notices the grease is no longer where it was. He then adds more only to find it gone again after the next use.

I'm sure there is some middle ground here. Find a good routine that works for you and stick with it.

Just a disclaimer, I primarily fish saltwater and have never had a problem with greased fittings on the 100hr/annual interval. Quality water resistant marine grease doesn't just evaporate, it's sticky, clings to everything and must be physically removed.

I used Lucas Marine Grease on the Optimax and now use Yamalube Marine Grease and Yamlube multi-purpose grease as per the manual on the SHO.

Some good reading, read about the manual calling for A grease and B grease:

Thanks for the replies guys! I appreciate it, honestly I feel I'm doing what was said above. I greased till I saw a bubble then when I return it's gone so I grease again. I'll let it go a few trips and then see again
