    It's a joke

furnace and AC units don't cost much, it is the contractor. 15 years ago I paid $500 for a furnace, AC unit and A-Coils. Furnace and and AC unit made by Carrier. Friend of mine worked for one of the largest mechanical Contractors in the country-- chargeed me $200 to install it and also made a new plenum.

Just saying, there's a lot that's goes into a total cost other than just a heat pump.
That price is insane. I could put three systems in at that price and still make money.

Last year, my 14 year old 4 ton Carrier A/C crapped out.
Replaced everything - furnace and air - with a new Lennox 4 ton setup, thermostat and humidifier included for $7400. Guys doing it also went through the house and sealed up a couple leaks. Biggest was around attic fan. Cooling bill literally went down 50% and heat a good 40%. 2800 square foot ,two story house now costs less than the 1500 square foot ranch house we left. I also kept the furnace since there was nothing wrong with it to install in a shop down the line...

Holy crap!! Did he offer you any vaseline with that price? Find 3-4 other companies and ask them for quotes. NEVER tell them what someone else quoted you. Make sure that when they quote you they give you specific mfg and model #s that they are quoting with efficiency ratings etc... That way you don't get a bait and switch!!

I think the 3600 bucks is just for the mechanicals.

Find a couple of recommended companies that does a lot of new construction and get prices from them. Stay away from phone books and commercials.

I didn't think they had 14 seer units 25 years ago... $8k still seems pretty high for a 2 ton unit.

8yrs ago original AC went out. it was a 2 ton. put in 4ton A/C & electric heat coils. About $3500. But didn't know then, but had the attitude the bigger the better. nope, too much, never did care for the way operates. wham it on cold and wham its off. then house gets warm. found out later that too big a unit and they cannot change way it works. if I replaced with same size 2 ton it cycles better to maintain temps. as it keeps the fan going after pump kicks off , then fan quits and till temp goes back up, and cycles as should. wished I'd of know the details .back then 2 ton was cheaper priced too.

I replaced one of my units last September along with the furnace and it was $3400 with a 10 year warranty. It was a 2 1/2 ton unit. You can look at this website and get an idea of what the units cost and what they are charging for labor. https://www.nationalairwarehouse.com...oners.html?p=2

Best I can tell, your 4 ton Rheem with furnace delivered to your front door is $2396. So they are charging you 6-7K for labor.
