Motorguide Tour cable slip or broken????

My Motorguide Tour 82/52" lost ability to steer this weekend after hitting a stump. It turns the guide arrow with the the pedal all the way down or all the up only. I was able to get out the wind and fire up the engine by steering the arrow with my hand. Do I have a broken cable, broken gears, or does something need to be tightened up?

Looks like the cable that goes to the heel of the foot petal is off, if it's broken call Jones Trolling Motor in the morning and he will be able to help you. He will need the number that's on the bottom of the foot petal, mxc300472 to tell which cable you need.

Question is how do I know if it's actually broken?

Pull on it. If it don't tighten up it's broke. Check your shafts too. Upper shaft and main shaft. They both could be bent. I also noticed that you still have the plastic pulleys on the foot pedal. Suggest you change them out too.

Make sure to check your upper and lower shaft.

If you didn't find out "why" it came loose, it will happen again. There was/is a problem somewhere that needs to be addressed.

I would look for too much slack in the steering, plastic pulleys that have worn the sides allowing them to roll the cable off, a bad cable drum in the head.

something is wrong again. Steering is nearly uncontrollable and cable has slack when the peddle is all the way down in the forward position.

Change your steering cables out. If they aren't broken now, it wont be long before they do.

As John has stated above. The plastic pulleys are your problem. they are worn down and need to be replaced. The metal pulleys. Check to see if the molded end of the cable broke or in good shape.
Take the nuts on the foot pedal end and compress the spring. This makes the cable lose and will allow you to install the cable. Once installed then loosen the nuts to tighten the cables.

The pulley sound like they are the problem. It is pretty easy and cheap to change the pulley out.

Personally I would change the cables out while you are doing it, takes about 15 minutes and everything will be great...

Changed out the shaft. When putting the pinion gear back on should the cable red dot be pointing up and what position should be foot pedal be in?

Looking from the rear with the head with the harness and the motor prop end aligned the read cable with is on the top slot of the wrap drum should be centered or just to the right of center. Keep in mind that the tension nut should have the spring on the foot pedal end fully compressed or you will have a hard time putting the wrap drum on the pinion gear.
