    DownScan overlay

Just upgraded from a gray-scale X-85 to Hook 7, so I've not been part of any current technology in sonar. Is using downscan over-layed on the sonar widely used and what advantage is it over watching sonar and downscan screens side by side? I guess I'm looking for upside and downside explanations of this feature?

It's been out for a long time, but I still don't know either how to use it or why it's even an option

kinda have the feeling everyone is in the same boat

I'd have to say that the majority does not use the DS overlay option....i think the advantage would be to help one interpret/confirm what they are seeing on regular sonar. I think looking at the split screen of sonar/DS is better as you can see each one clearly without something blending in.
