Not so easy with a 350 verodo and digital steering
Thank you
Saw a guy running a Puma 2011 with a rooster tail 12 ft. high and 150 ft back behind boat. He went past me and I just shook my head. this guy is either going to kill himself or somebody else and then he's going to bad mouth about boat not doing what it potentially can do. I ran an 07 Puma, never really achieved that great speed but sure enjoyed the ride in rough water. Never threw up a rooster tail like that.
Unfortunately that story is one we see occasionally with a BCB and can't tell you how much that sight wrenches our gut. You think it bother you and you shake your head? Think about it from our perspective. It happens less than it did years ago, though it still happens too often.

J Risco, that Sportmaster is on the 400 R and a totally different gear case is all aspects from diameter on.

With a Jag and a 400, you're in a new world. That ain't your daddy's bass boat. When you get in any bass boat that will run over 75 mph, and then some, it's an entirely different frontier. Be careful, and take your time learning the boat. Bad chit happens really quickly at 80+

You are right about it being in different world. Have driven many fast bass boats but this combo is different animal. Huge heavy boat with deep keel and an engine that has tourqe through out entire rpm range and then power steering to top it off. Nothing like I have ever driven before. The biggest thing you have to be aware of is coming off of pad with that deep keel you can feel the front end want to grab and pull. You can not chop the throttle or slam the trim down from WOT. Just like anything it takes time. You can not hop in this boat and expect to go 80mph+ first couple times out. I have only had boat out a few times, but I am starting to understand the characteristics of this animal. An absolute joy to drive. Amazing how such a big heavy boat feels so light when she settles in on the pad.
Be thankful that BassCats have "training wheels". Once you drive an Allison, you will appreciate the BCB handling at speed. Hint: fastest way to do a quick turn in an allison is to chop the throttle at speeds > 90. From experience. Painful. Alarming. Potentially deadly.

32 recommended I try a 25 rev 4 with my Jag/350 combo. Prop lifts the boat and reminds me of how my old champions use to get on the bad. Just lifts this monster up and like having another gear. Incredible to feel this monster nimble on the water at 4500 rpms going 55. Three blade cannot come anywhere close in mid range to everything but wot.
When I bought my boat new, I had 45 mph ski boat driving experience. I can't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure I was hitting 60 my first few times out. I drove it carefully but like I stole it, I was 21. Recently I went fishing with a buddy in his new Phoenix 919 with a 225. I didn't know at the time but it was a very light load, and we hit 77, I was like damn bro, good purchase. When he was trying to keep it under control, it seemed like he was working the blinker trim every 3 seconds, up, down, up, down, up up, down. (1 foot chop ) On my Sabre, this time of year, I'll find the sweet spot and leave the trim alone and go 61-63, not much driving needed. My weird question is, am I doing it right to get max top speed?? LOL In the winter I've hit 65.2 or so but it's a handful in those cold speed run temps, no hotfoot and no blinker trim.

There are some that think "a button must be pressed." :) What they need would be a triple-engine boat with hydraulic jack plates. Then they could adjust trim and height on each motor and keep pretty busy. :)
Might be the only time I would recommend a Champion. Several years ago they were showing a triple engine bass boat at boat shows. Probably had a 15 minute cruising range too.

It takes some time and I'm definitely not the best at it but if you are making adjustments to the wheel after it starts walking it's too late. You have to spend enough time to gain that seat of the pants feel and begin the very small corrections before the chine even starts. It took me a while to learn but It's definitely doable. Spend some time in the boat when you first get it without worrying about fishing. Just ride and learn. It helps to have someone with you that knows how to drive as well. My Old classic was an 83 mph rig when I sold it and it was a little bit interesting at those speeds with a beat up lower and 3 inches of slack in the wheel. When I bought my Eyra I had to re learn because everything was so tight that I needed to make much smaller adjustments. Time heals these wounds folks. There is no driving through it, only correcting it before it happens.

WHAT motor? Or was that a speedo type speed? If it was speedo, who knows. I can peg mine but just reach 78 by GPS.

OldTimer, It was GPS speed but with a highly modified 3.0 liter mercury EFI. It was not stock and with a stock motor 78.2 was the fastest I saw with a big prop and a light load. It was a fun rig for sure.
