    Slow out of the hole

My 201 with a Evinrude 250 is really slow out of the hole. Tonight during our tournament it seemed to take 15-20 seconds to break over with two guys and one livewell full of water. Motor was rebuilt last fall but just seems to lack the umph to get up. Other guys with 200s just seem to hit the throttle and go.

Prop is a Raker 14.5x28 set at 3 1/4" inches below pad per the instructions on this page. Wide open I'm hitting about 5500 rpm and a speed of 73 solo (seems like I'm lacking there also)

I seem to get a lot of blow out when running. I have tried lowering the motor to get more bite but that doesn't do much and if I raise it it blows out more. I do notice that there are some knicks in the blades on the prop.

Anyone have suggestions? New prop in a different size, get current prop fixed with more cup?

RPM'S seem low at wot -I think you need to be up around 5800. It sounds like you have a bit too much prop.

Sounds like too much prop. I'm running a 25 pitch on my 201 with a 250 hpdi. I swapped from a 27 because it was too much.

Thanks guys. I'll try a 26 Raker. I will see if the dealer has one I can try out to see if it improves things.

Keep in mind also, the Evinrude isn't a torquey motor in comparison to the yami or the newer Mercs and G2's so your hole shot is going to suffer a little. I just repowered with a 250 pro xs and am running the same prop as I was with my rude. My merc has 1.75 gears and my rude had 1.86 and the hole shot is better with the Mercury.

What gear case do you have? If you have the L2 try a 27 fury... if you have the SLE try a 26 fury. I ran etecs from 05 through 11 on 05 and 07 stratos and 08-10 and 11 Basscat's and everyone I had ran better with fury or tempest props. That engine has plenty of torque... the 28 raker is way to much prop for any kind of load on that boat. You should be able to run that etec right to 6000 rpms at about 75 mph give or take a few 1/10's!

I have no idea which gear case I have. Is there an easy way to check?

Yes is the bullet a distinct point in front or does it have a straight edge all the way down? Can you post a pic... otherwise you can google search it Evinrude SLE or lightning

Too much prop. I have a 28" Raker II that will run 76.4 GPS but the RPM's are not up where they need to be and I have the Lightning gear case. I prefer the 4 blade Renegade for rough water performance and a good hole shot but you sacrifice some on top end.

So if your 500-750 rpms short of the top range then you too could drop to a 27 and have an even better hole shot and more top end speed as well!

It has the distinct point on the lower unit. Max rpm is 5800 for that motor according to the manual. So 300 rpm is what I need to gain. bigbass, do you know anyone in the area that does prop rental/trials? I've called 6 Evinrude dealers but none of them do it.
