    My Old Johnson no spark on #2

    1989 Johnson GT175 ser# 08205800 Mod# J175 STLCE

    checked compression as follows 1-100 2-105 3--90 4-120 5-105 6-110
    Have spark on 5 cyl no spark on #2 All New Plugs QL77JC4 2 years ago
    TACH don't work - was a New Teleflex RED INT Tach to 7k replaced 2 yrs ago from ORM Original
    Motor Runs Fine on Lake
    Gear Case Clean no water, had it Serviced 2 yrs ago
    3 way tank valve and all new Gas Lines/ filters 2 years ago
    So my 3 Questions is: what can cause #2 no spark , and think compression still good ? Tach need another new one?

    i would swap that coil out with one of the others and see what happens after
    tracing and checking all wires and connections to the bad cyl.

    Seems like you compression numbers are all over the place....not terrible, but a bit inconsistent. Might be time for a decarb.

    I agree with Hulapopr....swap the coil with a known good coil and see if the problem follows the coil.

    Look at the primary coil wire connecter, if they get a little loose they will arc and finally get so bad they will not spark. They can be cleaned up.
