    Change of zip code

Sent my payment in full to Boat US (Geico) and indicated a change of address. Listened to a voice-mail from a foreign dude from an 877 number thanking me for the payment but because of a new zip the premium had increased. Is this typical? First time moving since 1985, a whole 5 miles, even less as a crow flies. Beautiful new 30×40 garage for my Triton to sleep in.

Your probably moving to higher accident rate area. Geico raised my rate over $150 on my car insurance because I moved to a town with a low crime rate, but was near a higher crime rate town which part of it shared the same zip code. I dropped them like a hot potato after being with them for over 10 years. Went with Allstate and never looked back. Have my cars and boat with them now. Insurance in NJ in general is high, the whole state is a high accident rate state so they go with crime rate to adjust your premium.
