    LEDs in the rail...

Has anyone cut the rail on say a 14 model and up Skeeter to install lights? I got lights to go in and so hesitant about cutting the rail on this boat for some reason... Plenty of room to go above the rail but they look so much better inside the rail....

Remove that black plastic piece that has 2 screws in the back. You can pull off the entire rubrail, no cutting needed until you drill holes for the lights.

So you dont cut a strip out of the rail but just drill holes where the lights are? Does anyone have a pic of this?

Take a look at NIGHTFISHION. That's what I put on my FX20. You are just replacing the entire factory rub rail with the lights already built in. Very clean looking.

I can't justify that much money for those lights when I fish mainly during the day... They're neat, very clean looking, but they aren't as bright and they cost 3 or 4 times as much as what's going in my boat in the Bluewater lights....

And I won't put them on the center of the rail and not cut out the middle.... Talked to Calvin about this and he recommended with my style of rub rail to mount above the rail....

Is Nightfision a board sponsor? Is it the same replacement for all makes or do they make a different one for individual brands?

I have had two sets of strips for nav ligts above the rail. Both have had damage from the normal bump and grind with docks and trees. Much easier to replace if they are a bove.

I had put mine inside the rail on my Bumble Bee... The way this rub rail is designed, i can't cut the insert because it's not really an insert...

I agree with the adhesive type as they can be easily replaced and there is no big hole to dremel out

If you put them above the rail how do you hide the wires?

Unless you have a router and a pattern, mount the Bluewater LED's above the rubrail. I did it over the winter on my FX20. The rubrail is too narrow to cut out by hand. Have been using mine for 2 months and they are great! One piece of advice: place a strip of good black electrical tape on the top edge of the lights after installed. Cut off the extra tape with a razor blade or Exacto knife. This will prevent the lights from interfering with your vision when on. I have 2 x 40" UV strips on each side along with a 12" green strip in the middle on each side. Access to the wires on the rear UV lights was made by running them inside the rubrail to the front where they enter the hull. Others went into the hull cap inside the rod lockers. All come on with the Bluewater red pushbutton, then the green ones are on a dimmer. Also made a bracket for the side of the trolling motor and mounted an Xtreme LED construction light (combo narrow and wide beam) on another red pushbutton for finding bouys in the dark. Great setup and plenty of light! You will be happy.

If your boat has the c channel rub rail like my Zx200 you can do your install like mine. I have a post in the Boat and Trailor Bling board. Look for Nav light rub rail install and UV light rubrail install part 2. It has recently been brought back to the 1st page so it won't be hard to find.

Mine looks like an v with a cap..I don't know what type it is... There ain't no cutting it and making it right though... Talked to Calvin Reynolds about it and he said with that type of rail he appears mounted above the rail so that's what I got...

Always above the rail. I think it looks much cleaner and the lights are less likely to be damaged.
