FX Speed #'s and What prop are you running

With my fx I'm only seeing about 73 it came with a 27 pro-v-Max prop. This is both tanks full and livewells full and loaded with gear. I'm only turning about 5800 RPM's. Everything i have read and heard I should be at about 76 to 77. The jack plate is set from skeeter and they told me it should be really close.

IMO, whatever FX & setup you or the few others that have them, I only have to you
You guys are the pioneers in this line of the bug.
Play with the jack plate height w/ an eye on water pressure.
With all that fuel, gear & livewells full( of fish) I'd be happy with your #'s.. Run the tanks almost dry, remove most the gear, empty the livewells & you to may see the speeds you've read about.

Matt Herren told me at the Classic to run the 25 and it was the best he'd found for performance.

Let me know what you find out. I have a 27P and it smokes with one person and light load. Put (2) guys in and full livewells and gas and it barely runs over 70. I think I need a 25P. In the performance bulletin Yamaha used a 26P which isn't even offered???

According to what I have read it has to be a ventless prop or it will ruin the motor??

27T1 was shipped from factory with it. My buddy just got a 225 SHO on ZX225 and it had 25T1 on it.

I don't see how a vent or ventless prop can ruin a motor? Exhaust has pressure and seeks the path of least resistance either thru the hub or thru the vent holes. Especially when it was sent from the boat manufacture with a vented prop.

I know a ventles prop on a 2 stroke will ruin the motor...per Yamaha. Not sure of the other way around. I am curious. There is a reason for the ventless??

A vented prop takes the "lugging" holeshot away. Lugging hurts a 2 stroke motor. The SHO has so much torque it doesnt lug and may vent too much. Being a 4 stroke it's fine.

Re: FX Speed #'s and What prop are you running (Doug Vahrenberg)

I have been researching this quite a it to find the right set up for my boat. I have read in several sites that this motor runs best with a ventless prop. In fact, if you use a vented prop it will mess up the variable valve timing of the engine when it unloads on plane. Yamaha says use a ventless and definitey do not run a ventless on a 2 stroke. I'm sticking with the ventless to keep things running correctly...my opinion.

A vented prop will will hurt accel on a SHO. It may be only a tiny bit, almost unnoticeable to quite alot. It will not hurt the eng at all.
